Gourmet Africa wins at the SA Food Review new product competition

19th September 2013

The 19 year old event just gets better and better. Previously only accessible to South African manufacturers, it has now extended to include international brands, too. And because if the new labelling legislation, the completion has been opened to rebranded and repackaged products to give the opportunity to re- compete against its peers. Entries are independently evaluated by a panel of expert judges; all regarded specialists in formulation, marketing regulations and packaging for the food and beverage industries.

This year Gourmet Africa  scooped not only Best New  Range of  Food Products for 2013, and in addition to this…… Runner up…. Best Individual Food Product 2013.

What the judges said:
Best New Range of Food Products - Winner.

The integration of social responsibility and much targeted flavours of Africa make the product really different and stand out. The range gives the consumers a great variety, and the packs are easy to use and convenient.

Best Individual Food Product…Runner up

Market potential/marketing
Great innovation from a product perspective - a twist on a peanut snack.
Integration of social responsibility and African tradition is a lovely angle.

Packaging
The printing on the packaging is clear and legible. It adheres to the R146 standards. It performs the duty of adequately protecting the pack contents. It could be a great marketing move to include more on the pack about being environmentally friendly/recyclable, particularly in line with the social responsibility story that comes forward.

Lovely, tasty flavour and aroma. Good texture and mouthfeel.
Product is visually appealing. A very interesting concept.
